Pics and notes about getting good results
You don't need much, just a warm dry day and a couple of basics:
For a classic finish, we'll cut the Zinsser Amber Shellac 50/50 with denatured alcohol
Take the cabinet apart, you need to get the front and back of everything. Lay down some paper and go somewhere with good ventilation where you can make a mess. Like the doorway to the garage. It's really thin and watery so you can put it on fast.
Apply a coat, let it dry (it drys quickly) and then apply another coat until you have the coloration you want. Be sure to also coat both sides of the rear panels as well as the inside of the cabinet for consistency. I left some screws in here so I could move the panels without marring the finish. A good reccomendation is 3 coats; you can smooth them out with 0000 steel wool in between, and then spray the cabinet with a shellac sealer when you're done. This is available as a spray product.
Let it dry, screw it all back together and bob's your uncle. it will protect the tweed and just makes the amp look more professional.
