My Cornwalls are from the early 1980s and as such their signal capacitors were over 30 years old. While they still worked ok, better parts are available and the installation is pretty easy.
I ordered a kit from Crites. it came with his phone support and a schematic of my crossovers. It was an easy fix, and works great.
They are "divorce speakers" as I told Mrs P when I drove to PA to pick them up. Quite large. 2 of them barely fit into our Volvo wagon. But they fill a room with amazingly lifelike sound and can get louder than you'll ever need on very little power since they are so efficient.
The original cross-over, inside the cabinet. This is why I laugh at tweaks who spend $500 on wire. This is zip cable that you might use to hook up a lamp, screwed down to terminal strips, inside some of the best speakers ever made.
A little different angle on it
The type of cross over is marked on the front. These are "Type B3".
The "Before" pic
The "After" pic. the coils don't wear out, but the capacitors do. There are 3 per cross over. The hardest part is adapting the much smaller modern parts to the prior mounting locations.
